Effective January 9, 2024, the LIHEAP Winter Crisis Program will begin. This program is for heating assistance, including electric, natural gas, coal, wood, propane and kerosene.  All of our Outreach Offices are now providing in person services, however it is required that you make an appointment.  At the date and time of your appointment, please arrive with all your documents.

List of Docs to Provide

Failure to bring all required documentation to your appointment will require you to make a new appointment. We require the below documents:

  • Social Security card(s) or official documentation with social security numbers for everyone living in the household.
  • Copy of disconnect/past due notice from utility company. If you participate in the Pre-Pay Electric Program, please present a statement from the utility company stating you are within 10 days of running out of service.
  • Copy of utility bill to document address if applying for coal, wood, kerosene, fuel oil or propane.
  • Proof of household income from the previous month including these examples:
    • Check stubs (MUST have all check stubs showing pay dates and gross income for the calendar month prior to your appointment date and verification that you did not receive the maximum number of checks issued by your employer)
    • OR, Current SSI/Social Security Award letter
    • OR, Food Stamp Letter (KTAP/Kinship Care)
    • OR, Unemployment Check Stubs
  • Examples of items which cannot be accepted are previous LIHEAP applications, bank statements, copies of benefit checks, and 1099 tax forms. We cannot accept Medical Coverage Letters as proof of other income.
