Effective May 2nd, 2022 the Spring LIHEAP Subsidy Program will begin. We can provide service for electric, natural gas, kerosene, wood, coal and propane.   All of our Family Service Centers are now providing in person services, however it is required that you make an appointment.   We do not want to overcrowd our lobbies.  At the date and time of your appointment, please knock on the door and someone will come out and make all your copies.

Currently all LIHEAP offices will accept walk-in clients in accordance with CDC guidelines.  Appointments can also be made via phone.  Applicants will be required to either upload the documents using this website OR drop off all required documents in a secure drop box at the LIHEAP office selected using the phone appointments. If you are unable to make copies of your documentation, please contact our office in advance of your appointment time.

We will need a signed application and all required documents to complete your application. Please make sure that you upload your documents using this website or drop off in a secure drop box at the location you selected for the appointment at least 24 hours prior to your appointment date and time. On the date & time of your appointment, either arrive at your selected office or if using telephone appointment, a LIHEAP staff member will contact you to let you know the status of your application.

List of Docs to Provide

Failure to submit all required documentation prior your appointment will delay your assistance. We require below documents:

  • Social Security card(s) or official documentation with social security numbers for everyone living in the household
  • Copy of utility bill or copy of lease if heating expenses are included in the rent. If you participate in the Pre-Pay Electric Program, please present the statement from the utility company that you are within 10 days of running out of service, including account number and address.
  • Proof of household income from the previous month including these examples:
    • Check stubs (MUST have all check stubs showing pay dates and gross income for the calendar month prior to your appointment date and verification that you did not receive the maximum number of checks issued by your employer)
    • OR, Current SSI/Social Security Award letter or Current Food Stamp Award letter
    • OR, Unemployment Check Stubs
  • Examples of items which cannot be accepted are previous LIHEAP applications, bank statements, copies of benefit checks, and 1099 tax forms. We cannot accept Medical Coverage Letters as proof of other income.

Within minutes of making your appointment, you should receive a confirmation email with a calendar appointment attached to the email. In addition, you will also receive a phone reminder the day before your appointment.
